UAV Lab Experience for 4th Graders!

On Thursday, February 22nd, our Outreach team hosted an exciting experience for 4th graders from Aggie Academy. During the traditional Engineers Week (Eweek), the students embarked on a venture across various laboratory spaces. In the ACCESS Lab, they gained insights into the two research branches focused on autonomous vehicles (AVs) and unmanned autonomous vehicles (UAVs).

They were able to witness first-hand one of our UAVs (drones) in action, courtesy of PhD candidate William Gray. William provided insights into the lab setup and key stages of the research process, captivating the young minds with his expertise. Additionally, AV-related informative material was provided to the lead CF/STEM teacher Ms. Shayla Thompson.

Aggie Academy is a public, free lab school serving 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders in Guilford County, North Carolina. Aggie Academy was established in 2021-22 by votes of the North Carolina A&T Board of Trustees, the University of North Carolina System Board of Governors, and the state Board of Education. Aggie Academy also has a partnership with Guilford County Schools, which provides transportation, meals, and support services at Aggie Academy.

The students were insightful, engaged, and visually excited about coming into a real lab and interacting with researchers!
