CR2C2 Researchers co-organized a workshop on Smart Freight Transportation: Last - Mile Logistics Challenges in the “New Normal” in IEEE ITSC 2023 Conference 

Dr. Evangelos Kaisar, who is the lead of MRI 3 of CR2C2, co-organized a workshop at 26th IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems ITSC 2023 that took place in September 2023 in Bilbao Bizkaia, Spain. 

This workshop addressed the “last mile” during the “New Normal” by discussing critical issues affecting freight transportation, planners, and policy makers. Also, we were able t identify innovative strategies and technologies which are being employed/developed to facilitate ‘smart freight transportation’ / ‘last mile’ delivery challenges from around the world. Additionally, analyzed  the adaptation of various newly emerged initiatives after the pandemic era. The workshop focused on Supply Chain Logistics, AI, Machine Learning, Deep Learning for ITS, Intelligent Logistics, and Transportation Networks in urban and rural areas. About MRI 3: Within CR2C2 Center,  MRI 3 researches the improvement of rural mobility through the provision of affordable transportation services. This will be achieved by evaluating the reliability of our regional freight network and developing novel approaches for improving the performance of the freight system. 

MRI3 will also develop innovative tools to study and optimize multimodal transportation network connectivity to enhance system performance, advance economic development, and support businesses in Region 4. Furthermore, we will pioneer new data analytics for decision support tools to enhance equitable mobility services in rural areas. 

About ITSC 2023: The 26th IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC 2023) was the annual flagship conference sponsored by the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society. IEEE ITSC 2023 included articles and presentations in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems, conveying new developments in theory, analytical and numerical simulation and modeling, experimentation, advanced deployment and case studies.
