SLC Outreach at Greensboro Middle School
SLC members Komal, Oladimeji, Hao, Tahmina, and Javier contributed to CR2C2’s outreach efforts with an innovative video presentation at Greensboro Middle School in Alabama.
The 20-minute video engaged over 50 middle school students in 6th and 7th grade, introducing them to the world of transportation engineering and research. Through the presentation, students learned about the essential role of transportation engineers in shaping both urban and rural communities, and how their work impacts everyday life. The discussion also explored the future of mobility, highlighting emerging technologies such as autonomous vehicles and flying taxis. The video and subsequent conversations were guided by middle school teacher Ms. Myra Harris and UA facilitators Dr. Joni Lakin and Dr. Hope Whiteside.
With this activity, SLC members inspired interest in engineering and encouraged students to think critically about the challenges and innovations shaping the future of transportation.
