The University of Kentucky Center for Clinical and Translational Studies (CCTS) provided a large dataset to researchers that details appointment data, healthcare provider clinical outcomes, diagnoses of chronic diseases, and several other social and economic characteristics of patients at UK Healthcare (with personally identifiable information redacted). It also includes results from a Social Determinants of Health survey taken by a large sample of patients utilizing various UK Healthcare service providers. The SDOH survey includes the question “In the past 12 months, has lack of transportation kept you from meetings, work, or from getting things needed for daily living?” This data helped CR2C2 researchers ascertain the percentage of patients who had difficulty finding reliable transportation to UK Healthcare appointments and/or other necessary travel. The research team utilized some of this data when creating a rideshare model to simulate how healthcare services could recover the costs of providing the model through increased revenue from insurance companies or Medicare/Medicaid.
