CR2C2 Launches Data Competition for an Equitable Transportation System Design

CR2C2 officially launched the Data Competition for an Equitable Transportation System Design, inviting students to tackle critical challenges in transportation equity. Under the leadership of Dr. Venktesh Pandey, this initiative aims to develop innovative, data-driven solutions that address the unique needs of rural and underserved communities in Rockingham County.

The competition encourages participants to identify specific transportation issues within the county and propose actionable solutions that enhance community planning and accessibility. By focusing on data analysis and multidisciplinary approaches, students will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of equitable transportation systems.

Dean Stephanie Luster-Teasley Pass expressed her enthusiasm for the competition, praising the students for their commitment to applying engineering and data science skills to real-world challenges while prioritizing the needs of individuals and communities.

The event received significant support from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), with Sarah Searcy attending to provide insights and guidance. Additionally, CR2C2 acknowledges the contributions of community partners, including Rockingham County and Aging, Disability, and Transit Services, with special thanks to Ronald Tate and Meggan Odell for sharing their expertise.

The competition is sponsored by TD Bank, emphasizing the importance of community collaboration in fostering future innovations in transportation.

Students will spend the next 2.5 months developing their proposals, with updates expected as they work towards designing effective, data-driven, and people-centric solutions.
