CR2C2 Student Sabit Musa’s Rural Mobility Research Featured in Vanguard News
The work of CR2C2 student Sabit Musa, advised by Drs. Greg Erhardt and Andrew Martin at the University of Kentucky (UKY), has been featured in Vanguard News for its innovative contributions to rural mobility and transportation research.
As mobility challenges persist in peri-urban and rural regions, Musa, a master’s student in Civil Engineering at UKY, is leveraging his expertise in Transportation Engineering to develop sustainable and data-driven solutions. His research areas include Transportation Planning and Policy Development, Sustainable Transportation, and Intelligent Transportation Systems—fields critical to addressing the mobility gap affecting underserved communities.
Currently maintaining a 4.0 GPA, Musa’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria. His passion for transformative infrastructure work has continued in the U.S., where he serves as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Kentucky Transportation Center.
His ongoing research project, Rural Healthcare and Transportation Deployment Planning, addresses one of the most pressing issues in rural America: missed medical appointments due to inadequate transportation options. In addition to this study, Musa is contributing to projects such as the Kentucky Automated Screening System (KATS) Site US23 and an initiative comparing the benefits of shuttle services versus autonomous vehicles for healthcare access.
Musa’s recognition in Vanguard News not only marks a personal milestone but also highlights the growing impact of CR2C2’s mission to drive innovation and equity in rural transportation systems. His collaborative, community-oriented approach continues to set a standard for how research can lead to real-world change—one solution at a time.
