CR2C2 researchers launched Aggie Autonomous Shuttles to serve the underserved community in East Greensboro
Joined by FHWA Associate Administrator of Highway Policy Randall K Benjamin, II, Secretary Eric Boyette, NC Division Administrator Yolanda Jordan, Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan, and many other federal, state and local leaders, CR2C2 researchers launched Aggie Autonomous Shuttles to serve the underserved community in East Greensboro by connecting the NCA&T neighboring area to downtown Greensboro.
Unique about the project:
The autonomy of these shuttles are developed in-house!
This pilot program’s route passes through the downtown area!
It serves the A&T neighboring area which is a food desert and the East Greensboro which is an underserved community.
The pilot program involves a fleet of THREE self-driving shuttles.
The speed of vehicles is 25 mph!
This is a step toward integrating microtransit vehicles into a multimodal transportation system! The stop in front of the Children's Museum, is only 7-minute walk from the Douglas Galyon Depot, the hub for 22 buses and the train station. The area is also covered by micro mobility services, including e-bikes and e-scooters.
This project contributes to the USDOT vision for transforming the transportation system and providing equitable mobility for All. Read more ...
